WASHINGTON D.C.: Reuters has reported that US President Joe Biden's nominee for a federal judge position in Kansas, Jabari Wamble, has requested to withdraw his nomination in the Senate, the second of Biden's judicial nominee to drop out in as many weeks.
Last week, Michael Delaney, a former New Hampshire attorney-general selected by Biden for a spot on the Boston-based 1st Circuit US Court of Appeals, requested to withdraw after receiving bipartisan criticism in the Senate.
In his letter to Biden seen by Reuters, Wamble said that he feels that "it is best" to remain in his current position as a federal prosecutor in Kansas, though he did not provide a reason for his withdrawal.
After being initially nominated last year by Democrat Biden for a seat on the Denver 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals, which expired in the Senate, in February, Wamble was instead nominated by the President to serve as a district court judge in Kansas.
The Senate has the authority to confirm presidential judicial nominations under the US Constitution.
Following the withdrawal, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said Biden is proud to have nominated Wamble, "who has dedicated his life to serving the people of Kansas."
