RICHMOND, Virginia: An Uber customer, stranded with the driver on ice packed I-95 in Virginia for nine hours on January 3, was charged $600 for his trouble.
The passenger, Andrew Peters, reports that he had ordered an Uber car after arriving at Washington D.C.'s Dulles International Airport to drive him to Richmond, Virginia.
However, the car was soon blocked by icy roads on I-95 in Virginia, along with hundreds of other cars.
Those people stranded in cars reported having neither food or water.
"I was coming in from San Francisco and didn't really realize what was going on here," Peters said, as reported by USA Today.
After arriving home over nine hours late, Peters reported being charged $200 for the Uber ride.
A short time later, however, another $400 was charged to his credit card by Uber.
However, USA Today reports, Peters was later refunded the $400 by Uber, though he did not disclose how much the reimbursement was.
Meanwhile, Virginia officials have been heavily criticized for not coming to the aid of the hundreds of stranded drivers.
Local media reported that during the ordeal, a couple handed out baked goods from a stranded bakery truck, with the cooperation of the truck's driver.
Virginia officials said the closed stretch of I-95 was reopened on January 5.
