LONDON, England: In a bid to reduce Covid infections among overweight Britons, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is promoting his own weight loss and maintaining a healthy diet. "We'll bounce back better together," Johnson told overweight Britons on Thursday.
Johnson has said his being overweight led to the severe reaction he suffered to last year's Covid infection.
In fact, evidence from throughout the world is pointing towards being overweight, as causing dangerous reactions to COVID-19.
"I've been doing a lot, in fact everything I can, to lose weight and to feel fitter and healthier. And what I've been doing is, I've been eating less carbs, avoiding chocolate, no more late night cheese, I've been getting up early to go for runs, and the result is that I actually have lost some weight," Johnson said on Twitter, while offering a weight loss plan to help the public become fitter.
"What we want to do is encourage another 700,000 people around the country who have the kind of problems that I have had to do the same thing, so we'll be not just fitter, but also healthier and happier, and we'll bounce back better together."
As part of a nationwide plan, Johnson said his government would spend 100 million pounds to assist the public to access doctors' appointments, download the correct Apps to help with weight loss, and the government is attempting to develop what he called fit miles schemes, as well.
Johnson's press secretary, Allegra Stratton, has said the Prime Minister has lost more than 14 pounds (6 kilograms).
