The Major League Soccer match between D.C. United and Toronto FC was postponed less an hour before the scheduled 9 a.m. ET start Sunday because of a positive COVID-19 test.
Mark Abbott, MLS deputy commissioner, said in a conference call that one D.C. player had tested positive for the coronavirus but was awaiting results of a second test. He also said a Toronto FC player had an inconclusive test and was being re-tested.
MLS said that the original tests, per protocol, were conducted Saturday. The seconds tests had to be performed Sunday morning before the match.
If the second tests come back negative, there is a chance the match could be played Sunday night.
Abbott said the two players have been isolated from their teammates at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex near Orlando where the MLS is Back tournament is being held.
The match was postponed from Friday night because Toronto arrived in Orlando two days late because of additional testing.
FC Dallas and Nashville were removed from the tournament before their first games because of numerous positive tests among their players.
